Andre Onana is currently a subject of great of great controversy in Cameroon and Manchester United.

The participation of Manchester United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana in the next African Cup of Nations has become a great soap opera in the last few weeks, as the player wouldn’t have been clear about his intentions of joining the Cameroonian national team for the competition and the Cameroonian federation would be really angry with the player.

Supported by Manchester United, the goalkeeper would have already taken a decision in this respect, and he will only join the Cameroonian national team after the start of the competition to favor the Premier League, and after discussing for several days on the player’s participation in the continental competition, things wouldn’t have gone as planned for the Fecafoot (the Cameroonian federation) and Onana could finally miss the first game of the Cameroonian team in the tournament against Guinea on 15 January.

In this sense, it would be worth remembering that Andre Onana would have agreed with Manchester United and Cameroon to be on the pitch at Old Trafford to face Tottenham on the 21st day of the Premier League, which after the changes in Premier League fixture dates, would led Onana to play on 14 January, which would mean playing two consecutive matches in 24 hours, a totally discarded option at this moment.

Onana’s situation would have strongly enraged the Cameroon fans

In this respect, Cameroon fans would have gotten really angry with the news announcing the absence of their goalkeeper for the game against Guinea, while Onana could be present for the two following games in Group C, notably the clash against Senegal (January 19), then against Gambia (January 23).
