The Red Devils struggled to impose over Wolverhampton

Manchester united reached a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton in their Premier league season opener after a single goal by the French defender Raphael Varane, who saved the Red Devils from the defeat alongside Onana despite the Ten Hag’s team looked broken and lack of chemistry between the lines, an aspect that surely the Manchester United’s Dutch coach needs to improve and develop along this season.

In this sense, the Red Devils started well, showing a powerful offensive transition in which Mason Mount, Antony and Bruno Fernandes had the best chances, despite the English international not having his best game with the Red Devils. However, very soon Wolverhampton created problems for the local team.

In this respect, Wolves developed good football, and created chances with Mario Lemina and Cunha, who at the 27th and at the 33th missed clear chances to score. The Brazilian player would have the first occasion for the Wolves also in the second half, when at the 49th minute hit the left post with a right footed shot from the left side of the six yard box after an assist by Pedro Neto.

Manchester United got saved by Onana, Varane and a VAR controversial decision

When Manchester United was on the ropes, with Wolverhampton amassing several chances to score, well defended by Onana,  the Red Devils reached their goal at the 76th minute with a header of Raphael Varane from very close range to the center of the goal assisted by Wan Bissaka from the right. The goal did not stop Wolverhampton, who had a chance in the 97th, when they asked for a controversial penalti finally not conceded by Onana over Hwang Hee-Chan, after which Manchester United could definitely celebrate their first and suffered victory.
