English international defender Harry Maguire is one of the names of the week in English football, since he returned to play a game from the start in the last few days, where he made part of the English national team’s lineup against Ukraine on the fifth day of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Despite having made a mistake in the last goal conceded by England against Ukraine, the English national team’s coach Gareth Southgate would have encouraged the player in the last few hours with nice and encouraging words in the press conference ahead of their friendly game against Scotland to be played in the next few days.
Southgate was asked for the English defender, who would be in the England’s lineup having played only 23 minutes this season with Manchester United, a situation which has created great controversy towards Southgate's decision on giving him a place in the starting XI.
However, Southgate revealed that this could be the moment of Harry Maguire, who would remain in the lineup and could add some minutes in Manchester United to cover the absences of Raphael Varane or Lisandro Martinez in the next few games. "Maguire knows he has to continue to play well for us and I think over the next few weeks, given what's going on with their squad with the injuries, he could well have a lot more minutes for them too", explained Southgate.
