The Brazilian Casemiro and the Argentine Lisandro Martínez will not be available at Manchester United during the Christmas period, but they will return to the group in January. The Brazilian midfielder has been out of action since the beginning of October due to a knock, while in September Lisandro suffered a relapse of the injury to the metatarsal of his foot that kept him out for several months in the final stretch of last season.
"They are not going to be available before Christmas. We expect them in January," said Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag. Last season, Martínez and Casemiro played 96 games in all competitions for Manchester United, to be an important part of the team that won the Carabao Cup and reached the FA Cup final at Wembley.
In a similar situation are Mason Mount and Harry Maguire, whom Ten Hag will also recover in January, so United hopes to regroup their team and seek to climb positions in the Premier League standings. "Mason Mount is something similar, he won't be able to play until January. Harry Maguire, I expect him in the first few days of next year," Ten Hag added.
Despite everything, there was some positive news as United confirmed that Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has returned to training. The 31-year-old has missed the last five Premier League games with a knee problem but is close to returning to competitive action.
The Red Devils are in seventh position in the table with 28 points, and for now they would be out of the possibility of playing a tournament in Europe for the following season. Tottenham, fifth in the table and which would enter the Europa League, has 33 points.
