Much has been said in recent decades about who is better: Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Their time in Europe had its ups and downs, but both reached the peak of their sporting careers and were able to taste glory, winning the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively.
Today, their realities are different. Messi has just signed a contract in the United States with David Beckham's Inter Miami, while Cristiano Ronaldo has failed in his first attempt to conquer Saudi Arabia, coming second in the overall standings with Al-Nassr, who were unable to climb any further up the table.
Ian Graham, head of Liverpool's research department, has been able to pull out the numbers and statistics to find out, at last, who might be the best in the world in terms of his characteristics and style of play. With this, the controversy could be over because the data would be cold and hard enough to question.
Although he admits that there is a player under the age of 25 who can surpass them without any problems due to his growth. Kylian Mbappé has a great growth model, and already surpasses everyone in general. But he is unattainable for many teams because of his high transfer fee, perhaps only for Real Madrid.
According to Graham's observations, Lionel Messi would be better valued than Cristiano Ronaldo. The difference he observes is the part of their roles on the pitch. The Portugal man only has the role of a centre-forward, while the Argentine world champion has to cover more space and fulfil two roles of passing and scoring.
