Comeback stories are not as neat or pretty as they seem. You have to fight to have them and often the merit is not what you thought it was. The case of this player coming back to Real Madrid tells you that, maybe, you need to go abroad to be valued again.
Brahim Díaz was born in Manchester City's youth team and spent three years with the Citizens until 2019, when Zinedine Zidane opened the doors to the Spanish side. He was one of his favourites and his photo of him embracing him after winning La Liga in an empty Santiago Bernabeu because of the pandemic went viral.
But the shadow of the signing of Kylian Mbappé always weighed on his shoulders. He arrived at Madrid exactly when rumours of the Frenchman's transfer were at their peak. In the end, the PSG attacker stayed in France and Diaz had to leave for Serie A, on loan for AC Milan as if on punishment.
The renaissance of his career came with the Rossoneri. Alongside the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Oliver Giroud, he became one of the most important elements for coach Stefano Pioli. Under the Spaniard's guidance, AC Milan became champions of the Italian League again after years of drought. And that catapulted him back to Spain and the protection of Florentino Perez.
Brahim Díaz was presented at Real Madrid and renewed his contract with Los Merengues until 2027. Carlo Ancelotti is expected to take him into account after the departure of Eden Hazard and Karim Benzema. Although he is still laughing because on his return, there are rumours that Kylian Mbappé could arrive this summer at the Santiago Bernabeu.
