The January transfer market window advances and not all the signings made by Manchester City have found the expected success at the club, since one of the latest players signing a contract during the January days with the Citizen would be about to leave the club in the next few months for an unexpected price.

The player in question is the Portuguese 29-year-old full back Joao Cancelo, who signed for City in 2019 from Valencia for €65 million and currently evolves at FC Barcelona, where he was sent in the summer on a six-month loan transfer, with the Catalan willing to buy him at the end of the deal in June.
In this sense, it would be worth remembering that two years ago on these January days the player was happy to sign a contract extension with the Citizen until 2027, with the player announcing “There's nowhere better and it’s a pleasure to work here. I have so much I want to achieve before my career ends, and Manchester City offers the best chance of fulfilling ambitions”.

Despite the good intentions shown at that moment, Cancelo seems now not be ready to accomplish as the club and particularly Pep Guardiola would have decided to definitely take the player out from his squad, a conflict which could surely end with the player leaving the club in the summer to join Barça on a permanent transfer for a significant lower price than the €65 million paid by the Citizen in 2019 to take Cancelo to the Etihad.
