Manchester United’s coach Erik Ten Hag surprised the media and the fans in the last few hours by sealing the agreement for the sale of one of the top gems in the club’s academy to Benfica, who completed the signing of the player as a part of their plans to strengthen their team for the second part of the season during the January transfer market window.
The player in question is the Spanish 20-year-old left back Alvaro Fernandez, who was evolving at Granada after United sent him there on a six-month loan transfer in the summer, and now would be sold to Benfica for €10 million according to the information given by the Portuguese sporting journal Record.
Following these sources, the Spanish defender was considered the number one option for the position by the Portuguese side, who would have really quickly sealed the signing of the player with Manchester United, whose sporting direction would have been favorable to the player’s sale to grant a really good deal for the club.
In this sense, Manchester United completed the second exit from the club’s academy in the January transfer market window, where the Red Devils already completed the departure of the striker Joe Hugill on a six-month loan deal to League One’s side Burton Albion in the last few days.
