Newcastle United achieved an important 0-2 win in the Tyne-Wear derby played against Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup, where the Magpies made history by defeating their rivals and advancing to the next round of the competition, once they have been already eliminated from the Champions League and the Carabao Cup this season.
In this sense, according to the sporting data company Opta Sport, Newcastle beat Sunderland for the first time in 12 years in a 0-1 victory in August 2011, as well as Newcastle defeating Sunderland in an FA Cup match for the first time in 115 years in a 0-3 victory in March 1908.
In this respect, with the last 0-2 achieved by Newcastle against Sunderland, the Magpies would have completed a new victory against their rivals, who in the last few years have been relegated to the Championship, which has avoided the possibility of enjoying the Tyne-Wear derby between both teams in the Premier League.
The Magpies, meanwhile, completed an important victory in their season, that could boost their confidence for the second part of the Premier League season, where they are currently placed at the ninth position of the league with 29 points after 20 days of competition, aiming the European positions of the table to play Champions League again next year.
