The unbelievable reason why Ecuadorian players made history in the Premier League

The player was pivotal for his team to achieve a sensational victory

Pervis Estupinan made history for Ecuadorian football in the Premier League.

Ecuadorian football is showing a huge progress in the Premier League, where its dominance goes further and further in the last few years. A proof of that is the arrival of Moises Caicedo to Chelsea from Brighton in the summer transfer market window through a €116 deal which turned the Ecuadorian into the most expensive player in the planet, but many more successes of Ecuadorian football seem to be still coming.

In this sense, it would be worth remembering that Caicedo has not been the only Ecuadorian star to join Chelsea, as the 17-year-old striker Kendry Paez was signed by the Blues from Independiente del Valle for €27 million in the summer and remained loaned in the Ecuadorian until 2025 when he turns 18.

In this respect, the last Ecuadorian player to be added to his compatriots’ success in the Premier League was the 25-year-old left back Pervis Estupinan, who became the first Ecuadorian player in history to score a goal in a Premier League Boxing Day. The player born in Esmeraldas was one of the best players for Brighton in their sensational 4-2 against Tottenham.

The player has kept on evolving since he left LDU Quito in 2016

Following these numbers, it would be worth mentioning that the goal scored against Tottenham in the Boxing Day would be the third net gotten by Estupinan with Brighton in the two seasons he has played for the Seagulls, having improved his best numbers at La Liga with Osasuna (one goal) and reached his best performance at LaLiga2 with Mallorca (3), as his career in European football has kept on satisfactorily evolving since he left LDU Quito in 2016.
