Liverpool got a 1-2 victory against Newcastle in St. James’ Park on the third day of the 2023/2024 Premier League, where the Reds struggled from the beginning due to defensive mistakes under the rival’s pressure but the hard work of the Reds and a brilliant Alisson help Liverpool to resist until Darwin Nunez gave a battle victory to the visitors with a wonderful double.

The Reds began conceding the opening goal for Newcastle after a pass to the defense by Mohamed Salah that Alexander-Arnold did not reach to control, leaving James Gordon the gap to run and score the opener in the one-to-one against Alisson at the 25th minute. Only three minutes later, Virgil Van Dijk tried to intercept a counterattack with a foul on Isak, which made the referee Stuart Attwell to show him the red card, that left Liverpool with 10 players and visibly affected in its game.

The second half started with Newcastle dominating the game, and Liverpool resisting based on a really good performance by Alisson Becker, who stopped the locals attacks leaving some brilliant stops during the game. At the last period of the game, Jürgen Klopp gave some minutes to the Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, who had an incredible rebirth that gave the final victory to Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez became the most decisive player on the pitch

The Uruguayan player joined the game at the 77th minute, when he replaced Alexis Mac Allister, and only four minutes later he received a pass from Alexander-Arnold to start a run that ended with the equalizing goal. However, the Uruguayan took some more time to become the most decisive player in the game, when he scored his second goal at the 93rd minute, setting the final 1-2 for Liverpool.
