Liverpool’s coach Jürgen Klopp surprised the media and the fans with the lineup he set for the game where the Reds visited Luton Town in Kenilworth Town on the eleventh day of the 2023/2024 Premier League season, a game where the Reds need a win to jump to the top three of the league and join the race for the title with Manchester City and Tottenham once Arsenal dropped points after losing against Newcastle this week.
The Reds presented a team with Mac Allister as a defensive midfielder alongside Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, once Curtis Jones was not included in the squad due to a sanction. The other main news in the lineup was the inclusion of Nunez in the forward line, the presence of Alexander-Arnold in the right back, with Gomez in the left to replace Tsimikas, who will have rest and will start from the bench, and the presence of Ben Doak in Liverpool’s bench after recovered from an injury.
On their side, Luton Town arrived with seven absences in the team and their coach Robb Edwards had to make multiple changes in the team. The Hatters were without long-term absentees Amari’i Bell, Reece Burke, Mads Andersen and Dan Potts for the contest, with Jordan Clark, Luke Berry and Albert Sambi Lokonga also missing.
Liverpool need a victory in Kenilworth Road to keep on fighting for the league, which the Reds will try to do with the following lineup: Allison; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Jota. On the bench, Jürgen Klopp will have the following players: Keheller, Endo, Diaz, Gakpo, Elliott, Tsimikas, Matip, Doak, Quansah.
