Manchester United former player Cristiano Ronaldo was again involved in the Ballon d’Or ceremony despite having been ranked as the 829th player on the list finishing with Lionel Messi as a winner, and surprised the media and the fans with a reaction on social media to a post criticizing the decision and labeling as a “steal”.

The Portuguese player, who was mentioned by Messi himself during his speech after receiving the trophy revealing that he would have liked to play with him, did not hesitate to react to the criticism around the decision that ended with the Argentine superstar lifting his eighth Ballon d’Or.

In this sense, the Spanish journal AS posted a statement by the Spanish journalist Tomas Roncero, who said “Hello friends, what we knew happened, they were going to give Messi another Ballon d'Or. He went to retire in Miami, but the last one seemed retired at PSG, he only prepared to play in the World Cup. He won the World Cup, yes, well, but with 6 penalties. The World Cup was 10 months ago, we are in November."

Cristiano Ronaldo fueled the controversy in the Ballon d’Or 2023.

The caption continued mentioning that Messi would have won three of those trophies without deserving it. "Messi has eight Ballon d'Ors and should have five: he has the Iniesta/Xavi Ballon d'Or in 2010, Lewandowski who won 6 trophies in one season in 2021 and Haaland who was the top scorer of everything, in 2023", Roncero wrote. Meanwhile, the former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo liked the post and commented on it with laughing emojis, which again fueled the controversy in the Ballon d’Or 2023.
