With Fischer off the technical bench, the Bundesliga took a historic hit. And, in modern history, since it called itself the Bundesliga, starting in 1962, it is an unprecedented fact; Eta has already become the first woman to be promoted to the position of second coach of an elite team of men's football.
This Wednesday the UEFA Champions League had a debut that will be marked in the history of the tournament, since on Matchday 5 coach Marie-Louise Eta officially debuted as Union Berlin's strategist in the draw against Sporting de Braga.
Marie-Louise Eta is replacing Urs Fischer, who was dismissed from his position as coach of Union Berlin after having gone 14 consecutive games without being able to win with the team.
The Germans went ahead on the scoreboard thanks to a goal from Robin Gosens at 42', but their joy was short-lived, since in the second half, at minute 51, Álvaro Djaló tied things up so that the match ended 1-1 on Matchday 5 of the Champions League.
Marie-Louise came to Union Berlin after being in the U-19, and she was also part of the coaching staff of the U-19, U-15 and U-17 categories of the women's branch of the German National Team. In addition, Marie-Louise became the first woman to coach a men's team within the five best leagues in the world.
To talk about Urs Fischer at the head of Union Berlin is to refer to one of the architects of the club's great progress in recent years. When he took the reins of the team, in 2018, the red and whites did not even belong to the highest circuit of German football. On November 15, Fischer and the board decided to part ways by mutual agreement.
