Phil Foden says Pep Guardiola is the ideal coach to help him understand how to shine in central midfield.

Foden has spent much of his career on the wing but was given the chance to play in the middle in Tuesday night's Champions League clash against RB Leipzig. The Academy graduate impressed, he assisted twice, scored a goal and took home the Man of the Match award.

While it was a good performance alongside Rodrigo and Rico Lewis, Foden accepts that he can improve on the ball when he plays as a centre-back and that Guardiola is the perfect coach to help him in that regard. His attention to detail is impressive. I still have a lot of things I want to improve on, especially playing in that midfield role.

I need to be more alert defensively and get my positions right; I know it and I'm doing everything I can to improve. It has been more than six years since Foden made his first-team debut, coming on in the second half against Feyenoord on November 21, 2017.

The Stockport-born star has made almost 250 appearances for the club, playing at least 45 times in each of the last three seasons. The number 47 recognizes the great achievement of having become a key figure in Guardiola's team. We are one of the best teams in the world, so it is not always easy to go from the Academy to a team like this.

Participation in the triple crown

The 23-year-old featured in 48 matches during our Treble-winning campaign in 2022/23 and is one of several players to have made an exceptional start to the new season. He insists that everyone at the Club is determined to do everything in our power to match last year's achievements. That's what I like about the boys: we don't just think about what we achieved last year, we know the feelings, it's amazing when we win something and celebrate it as a team; we want to experience that feeling again.
