Being away from his family and friends was an emotional impact for midfielder Moises Caicedo, who revealed that when he arrived in England to join Brighton he cried for several days to the point that he intended to return to Ecuador. In an interview with the website of his current club, London Chelsea, the player, born 22 years ago in Santo Domingo, revealed what he experienced in his first days on English soil at the beginning of February 2021.
I came here when COVID-19 was exploding and before I could leave for England I had to stay ten days in a hotel. I called my mom and dad and told them that I wanted to return to Ecuador because everything was very different and I didn't want to be here, said Caicedo, who debuted as a professional in Independiente del Valle.
The words of his parents lifted his spirits and Moi reacted. Every day I continued to pray and began to feel better and better. Now I am here at Chelsea, enjoying every game. It's great to be here, to be part of this incredible club, he said. Although before establishing himself as a starter at Brighton, the tricolor was loaned to Beerschot V.A. from Belgium to adapt to the demands of European football.
After reaching the level that coach Graham Potter wanted in the six months he was in Belgium, he decided to have Moises for the second half of 2021. With Brighton he accumulated 53 official matches, scored 2 goals and assisted 3 times for his teammates to score. He accumulated 4,448 minutes, out of a possible 4,770.
In August this year he became the most expensive player in English football when he was transferred from Brighton to Chelsea for £115 million. But given the irregular performance of his cast, Caicedo is confident that they will move forward. The Premier season is long, there is a long way to go and we have to continue fighting and working hard. When you do, you will begin to see achievements.
