After a season in which Liverpool failed to qualify for the next edition of the Champions League, the team's board and Jürgen Klopp have taken the decision to prioritize the arrival of young players and, at the same time, allow the departure of other players who in the past were important in the scheme of the German tactician and who influenced the success of the Reds in recent years.
That is why, as soon as the 2022-2023 season ended, Liverpool announced the definitive departure of great figures such as Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who in the past played a very important role in Klopp's team. All three players left as free agents, so Liverpool did not pay a single euro for their departures, demonstrating that the priority on rejuvenating the squad is above all else.
However, everything seems to indicate that the aforementioned departures might not be the only ones Liverpool will have to make for next season, because if they want to strengthen substantially, as it has been speculated during the last weeks, they will have to make more space in the squad and the fans could have their candidates to leave the team this summer.
One of them is Thiago, the Spanish midfielder who joined Liverpool in 2020 from FC Bayern for €22 million. At the time of his arrival at Anfield, Thiago was one of the best midfielders in the world and was coming off the back of winning the Champions League with the German club, however his performances with the Reds have not been the best and with only one year left on his contract, this could be Liverpool's last chance to make some money from his departure.
While it is true that Liverpool are prioritizing the arrival of young players, everything seems to indicate that Jürgen Klopp and the Anfield board have reached a decision on Thiago's future, as according to The Athletic, the German tactician has Thiago in his plans for next season and they are determined that Thiago will leave the club as a free agent in a year's time.
