The Colombian striker, Jhon Jader Duran, finds himself facing a unique opportunity in his football career. The injury to Ollie Watkins, Aston Villa's starting forward, has opened the doors for him to be a first baseman in the next match against Bournemouth.
Duran has shown his potential in every opportunity he has had with the team, especially in the UEFA Conference League, where he even played all 90 minutes in the match against Legia Warsaw. Now, the young attacker, only 19 years old, has the possibility of starting for the first time in the Premier League since his arrival in England.
Aston Villa coach, Unai Emery, confirmed in a press conference that Duran is among the options to replace Watkins in case he does not recover in time. Ollie Watkins is a doubt for Sunday. We are considering other players, such as Jhon Jader Duran, Zaniolo and Jacob Ramsey, who have been adding minutes lately. We are going to wait until tomorrow to evaluate his condition and decide if we can take a risk with him or not, said the Spanish strategist.
The coach also highlighted the importance of players returning after injury. He highlighted the good performances of players like Alex Moreno and Robin Olsen, who returned after spending time without playing. In addition, he mentioned the case of Jacob Ramsey, who has also added minutes after an injury, and Duran, who has shown consistency in the 90 minutes of play.
Since his arrival in January of this year, Duran has played 19 games in the Premier League, but has only played 191 minutes. He has always come on from the bench and has been on the substitute bench on seven occasions, while in five other games he has not been called up.
