Manchester United’s defender Harry Maguire was under the spotlight in the last few hours after conceding an own goal for Scotland in the English national team against them in Hampden Park in a friendly game played to commemorate the 150 years of rivalry between both teams in football history.
Maguire was one of the most mentioned players before, during and after the game, since he had been highly criticized before the game for having played only 20 minutes with Manchester United this season, while at the 66th minute of the game against Scotland he netted a crossed pass by Andy Robertson, which made the Tartan Army to booed the player and mocked at him for making the 1-2 for Scotland.
In this respect, Maguire was defended by the England national team’s coach Gareth Southgate, who labeled the situation around the player as a joke, stating that the media and the fans would have created something that would be beyond anything he could have ever seen in his football career.
Meanwhile, Maguire himself hit back to the Scottish fans through his personal Instagram account, where he responded referencing a song by England supporters saying “Scotland get battered, everywhere they go”, posting a picture of the England’s victory with the caption “Enjoyable camp with the lads, always a pleasure representing my country. Everywhere they goooo”.
