Newcastle got an incredible 4-1 win against PSG in St. James’ Park on the second day of the UEFA Champions League group stage, where the Magpies set the rhythm of the game against the French giant, controlling all the aspects in the game, and showing to have been tactically prepared as Eddie Howe seemed to have studied really well their opponent.

The Magpies opened the scoring at the 17th minute with a goal by Almiron profiting a mixed-up in the rival’s defense following a Marquinhos mistake to give the locals the lead of the game. In the 39th minute, they hit again the rival, and Burn scored with a header that was conceded as a goal with the help of the VAR.

Newcastle repeated the plot in the second half, which they dominated, and at the 50th minute Longstaff scored the third goal for the Magpies with a left footed touch to the far post of Donnarumma, who could not reach the ball. PSG got their goal seven minutes later when Luis Hernandez netted with a header, but the dominance of the locals was total in all the aspects in the game and their defense resisted very well the individual attempts created by Mbappe, Dembele or Zaire Emery.

Schär sealed the victory for the locals

The party was complete for Newcastle a few minutes before the end of the game, as Schär stole a ball in PSG’s defense and combined with Guimaraes to seal an historic 4-1 against the French giant and engrave the date in the club’s history as a memorable European night.
