The English teams completed a tough Champions League group stage in the last few hours with Manchester City becoming one of the best English teams in the competition throughout history, as the Citizen equalized a record set in the last few years by winning all six games of the tournament’s group stage.
In this sense, the Pep Guardiola’s side, which shined during all their six games scoring a great amount of goals in the competition thanks to their offensive players Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland, also based their style in the offensive transitions created by attacking players such as Foden, Doku, Bernardo and Grealish, who were helped by young promising stars like Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb or Rico Lewis.
The achievement of the Sky Blues led them to reach an impressive Liverpool record in the competition, as according to the sporting data company Squawka, both clubs are now the only two English sides to have won all six Champions League group stage games in a single campaign, having Liverpool done it at the 2021/2022 and Manchester City at the 2023/2024.
In this respect, it would be worth mentioning that Liverpool reached the record under Jürgen Klopp’s management, while Pep Guardiola was the coach leading Manchester City to reach that impressive stat, which would again contribute to prove that both managers are totally dominant in English and European football since their arrival to his teams.
