Harry Maguire has been one of the most mentioned names in the Manchester United last campaign. The English international didn’t have many chances to play with the team, but an injury of Lisandro Martinez allowed him to be in the team line up during some games, in which he made errors that the fans didn’t forgive.
In this sense, the English 30-year-old defender was able to complete 31 games playing for United in all competitions this last season, numbers very far from the expectation generated by his arrival in 2020, when Manchester United paid €87 million to Leicester for his transfer. For these and more reasons, Maguire hasn’t been able to convince neither Erik Ten Hag nor the Manchester United fans this season, and both want him to leave the club.
Ten Hag has already put the player on his selling list and the club is asking at least for €45 million to let him go. However, the price seems to be very high to find a destination and the club could be considering selling him for less money or sending him on loan to another team. The player has declared he wants to stay at United and Ten Hag, fed up with the situation, took a desperate measure to make him reconsider his role in the team.
During the first days of training, his coach surprised everyone at the club with a decision which will be happening this week. According to the journal The Sun, Harry Maguire is set to officially lose the captain’s armband at Manchester United this week even if he stays put. This way, Maguire will definitely lose his leading role in the team as the coach doesn’t count on him anymore. During the last few weeks we’ll see how the situation evolves and who takes the place of Maguire as one of the captains in Manchester United.
