Manchester City’s coach Pep Guardiola surprised the fans and the media in the last few hours in the press conference after the defeat of his team against Newcastle in the third round of the Carabao Cup, as he insisted not to be worried of losing the opportunity to conquer the quadruple this season after being dropped from the competition with the 1-0 defeat against the Magpies.
The Catalan coach, who kept Erling Haaland on the bench for the whole game despite his team was losing and needing to score a goal to equalized the game, confessed not to be disappointed cause his side no longer would be able to win the quadruple, making an impressive revelation to the fans and the media.
In this sense, when the coach was asked about the opportunity lost, answered saying “'You think the target was to win the quadruple? Honestly, it's not”. The Catalan coach said to be more than satisfied with getting the chance to repeat the treble if they were able to do it this season. “Our expectations are high, but not high enough to not be satisfied with that”, confessed the coach.
In addition, Manchester City’s coach explained the reason why he did not opted to bring on Erling Haaland as time ran down at St. James’ Park with his team losing, revealing that he would not have considered to bring him on. "No. I thought Kyle had played a lot of minutes, Erling a lot of minutes. We have a lot of games ahead of us”, said Guardiola.
