Mikel Arteta spoke on the players in the pregame press conference

Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta surprised the media and the fans by including three young stars from the club’s academy in the squad receiving PSV at the Emirates Stadium on the sixth day of the 2023/2024 Champions League stage, where the Gunners have really few in game as they are already certified as the leader of their group and classified for the next round of the competition.

In this sense, Mikel Arteta would be ready to give some important European minutes on the pitch for some of the most promising prospects in the club’s academy, who could start for the Gunners the game against PSV to show their quality in the senior team, which would also have some non habitual players in the lineup.

In this respect, Arteta included Ethan Nwaneri, Lino Sousa and Reuell Walters in the squad hosting PSV in the Champions League, and backed them in the club’s press conference ahead of the game, revealing that developing players in the team’s system would be the main reason to add the players to the squad.

Arteta analyzed the players’ evolution

The Spanish manager admitted, in fact, that the young stars have earned their own luck, and there would be circumstances bringing them to the senior squad. “Lino has a bit more experience but two of them are still really, really young. We want to start to give them some experience because they have the talent to hopefully be very close to us. We will try to give them the opportunity if we can in the right moment”, explained Arteta.
