They thought he would be better than Drogba, paid over €100 million and would leave Chelsea through the back door

Didier Drogba is one of Chelsea's greatest legends

There are players who simply don't like being in a certain team, for some reason they don't feel comfortable and are unable to show their best level, even though in other teams they have shown great qualities. Chelsea knows better than anyone what this is, because a couple of years ago they paid 113 million euros for a player who never performed as expected at Stamford Bridge.

We are talking about Romelu Lukaku, a center forward of great physical and technical qualities who, in his prime, was considered one of the best strikers in the world, but who in none of his stages at Chelsea has been able to perform at his best level.

After a first stint at Chelsea, Lukaku went to Everton where he established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League, thanks to his performances he was signed by Manchester United and later went to Inter in Serie A. With these three teams, Lukaku scored a total of 207 goals, so when Chelsea re-signed him in 2021, they paid 113 million euros for him, as many believed he could be better than the legend Didier Drogba, but the reality turned out to be very different.

Romelu Lukaku has suffered from injuries and low level when playing for Chelsea, and in total he has only played 59 games for the Blues in which he has scored 15 goals. That is why the London board is considering his departure this summer, and Inter would be willing to sign him, but the transaction could be complicated.

How much would Inter pay for Lukaku?

Currently valued at 40 million euros, Chelsea would have in mind to get that amount for Lukaku. However, Inter's offer would be 5 million euros for a loan, with an option to buy another 30 million, that is 5 million less than what Chelsea's board would ask for.
