Manchester United’s coach Erik Ten Hag surprised in his last press conference with the club defending Harry Maguire from the criticism around him in the last few weeks, where the English player conceded an own goal against Scotland and was under the spotlight during the whole week, being highly hit by the Scotland and the English fans.
The English defender, who had already been defended by the England national team’s coach Gareth Southgate, was also defended from the criticism around him by his manager at Manchester United, who surprised with the attitude he showed towards the player’s situation, as Ten Hag himself would have already set him as a transferable player in the Manchester United’s squad and would have stripped him from the club’s captaincy this summer.
In this sense, Ten Hag was asked about the criticism surrounding Harry Maguire in Manchester United’s press conference ahead of their next game in the Premier League against Brighton in Old Trafford, and the Dutchman took the word to passionately defend the English defender, sending a message about his quality.
In this respect, Ten Hag hit out at the abuse Harry Maguire has been subject to, expressing that the Manchester United ex-captain would not deserve it, since he is a great player. "I have said many times that it is disrespectful, doesn't deserve it, he is a great player, and gives great performances. It is crazy how it works. Harry has to block this. You see his career, a lot to come, he has to block it with good performances", said Ten Hag.
