Manchester United could have received bad news in the last few hours, since one of the clubs expected to help them to build their squad by buying some transferable players would have finally decided to turn its eyes to other targets, which could affect the Red Devils in the last few days before the Premier League starts.

According to the Italian journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, West Ham could have reached a verbal agreement with Ajax for the Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez for a total package around €40 million, while the player could have already agreed personal terms with the Hammers some few days ago.

Following these sources, Alvarez would fly to London in the next 24 hours in order to undergo his medical test and sign contracts, to confirm the Mexican player as the replacement of Declan Rice in the team. In this sense, the arrival of the player would respond to a request made by the West Ham’s coach David Moyes, who would have asked for a big player to lead the team’s midfield in the upcoming season.

McTominay’s future would be uncertain

In this respect, according to the British media the operation could affect the potential arrival of Scott McTominay, the player whom David Moyes would have identified as the player to sign to rebuild the West Ham’s midfield after Declan Rice’s departure to Arsenal. However, since West Ham received €115 million for his former captain’s transfer the money should not be a problem for them, and according to the British media, Manchester United would still expect an offer from the Hammers to sign Maguire and McTominay in the next few days.
