Everyone considers Manchester City to be the best team at the moment. Josep Guardiola's English club have won a historic treble for the institution and will be looking to add more titles in the coming months, to demonstrate their footballing and economic power that they have built up so much.
By winning the UEFA Champions League against Inter Milan in a historic final in Istanbul, Turkey, the English have positioned themselves as the best there is on the continent. And it has put players like Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva as the most dominant in their position and breaking a number of established records.
The Norwegian striker has broken the mould, and other clubs are looking for a similar player with the same eye for goals. But Guardiola has been clear that the striker is unique, and compares him to the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, especially in the way he can change a game with his presence.
However, nothing counts for the official statisticians. Despite the three trophies in their trophy cabinet, City are not considered the number one team in the world. A surprise for fans, who continue to doubt the methods by which they make such rankings.
According to the new June listing from the IFFHS, Real Madrid are number one in the world club rankings, followed by Manchester City in second place. Flamengo and Benfica follow them respectively and Inter Milan have moved up several places to fifth. A further blow to the English team who continue their quest for legendary status.
