Andre Onana finally had a great performance with Manchester United in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win against Copenhagen in Old Trafford on the third day of the 2023/2024 Champions League’s group stage, as he could save a penalty in the last minute of the game that would have avoid the victory of the Ten Hag’s team.
The action happened exactly at the last minute of the game, at the 97th, where a penalty was conceded for the Danish side after a handball by Scott McTominay inside the box, an action that was strongly protested by the Scottish player, and ended with Onana having a great performance in front of the rival player Jordan Larsson, son of the Manchester United former player Henrik Larsson.
The Swedish young player made a left footed shot to the right corner, which was saved by Onana with his right hand. The Cameroonian goalkeeper was hugged by Harry Maguire and Alejandro Garnacho, who were the first Manchester United players to praise him for the action.
In this sense, at the end of the game Onana himself spoke to the media and avoided giving himself much importance for the action. "I was just doing my job, being calm, not under pressure and making myself big, waiting as long as possible and making the save", he revealed, and added “It was an important victory for us – we had to win this game if we wanted to continue this competition. We are Manchester United and we have a lot of ambition, a lot of expectation".
